Therme Bucharest: £30 Well Spent (And Then Some)

I don’t say this lightly, but Therme Bucharest might be one of the best-value experiences I’ve ever paid for while travelling.

For £30, you get an entire day in one of Europe’s biggest thermal spas. Not a couple of hours. Not a watered-down “basic” ticket. A full, indulgent, lose-track-of-time spa day — including robe, flip flops and towels. No hidden extras. No upsells shoved in your face.

And that’s before you even step into the water.

Everything… In the First Room

You walk in and immediately think, oh — this is already more than enough.

In the very first room alone, you’ve got:

  • A huge pool with a swim-up bar
  • Red light sunbeds (yes, actual red light therapy, not a gimmick)
  • Multiple saunas, all with different temperatures, humidity levels and sensory themes
  • Numerous mineral pools, all doing something slightly different for your body

Normally this would be the premium area. Here, it’s just the starting point.

Outdoors, Indoors, and Everything Between

Then there’s the outdoor space — and this is where Therme really shows off.

You’ve got:

  • A large outdoor thermal pool
  • A lazy river you can drift around endlessly
  • A beach area with loungers that genuinely feels like a holiday
  • An outdoor swim-up bar (dangerous in the best way)

Inside, there’s also a full indoor water park, with slides, waves, and proper high-energy fun — which makes Therme feel less like a spa and more like a full-on wellness playground.

It’s Not Just Floating Around

Throughout the day, they run:

  • Aqua aerobics
  • Mini pool parties
  • Group activities that actually add atmosphere without being intrusive

You can be as relaxed or as involved as you want — nobody’s forcing a timetable on you.

The Bar & Food (Shockingly Good)

Spa bars usually rinse you. This one doesn’t.

The drinks were extremely cheap, especially considering where you are. Cocktails, beers, soft drinks — all reasonably priced, all decent quality.

The food is genuinely good, too, with multiple options depending on what you fancy. Not just sad spa salads — proper meals that don’t feel like a compromise.

The Only Downsides (And I Mean Only)

To keep this honest, there are two negatives:

  1. The water park gets very busy, and queues for the slides can be long. If you’re going mainly for relaxation, it’s easy to avoid — but if slides are your thing, be prepared to wait.
  2. They are VERY strict on jewellery.
I had to remove a bracelet that had been tied on and hadn’t come off in years just to go on a slide. Fair enough — safety rules — but the annoying part was having to:
    • Leave it in a box at the top
    • Go down
    • Then climb back up past all the queues again just to retrieve it

Not a dealbreaker, but definitely worth knowing before you go.

Final Verdict

Therme Bucharest isn’t just good value — it’s borderline ridiculous value.

£30 for:

  • A world-class spa
  • Multiple pools, saunas and experiences
  • Indoor and outdoor areas
  • Entertainment throughout the day
  • Cheap drinks
  • Good food
  • And all the essentials included

If you’re visiting Bucharest and skip this, you’re genuinely missing out.

This isn’t a luxury add-on.
It’s a must-do.
